01 · What happened
What happened with our GoDaddy domain transfer?
In August 2026, We Solve Media purchased the transfer of a .co.nz domain to GoDaddy. The purchase process and confirmation information represented the transfer as including a one-year term, with a stated renewal date in 2027.
We completed the transaction and paid GoDaddy based on those terms. After the transfer was completed, however, the domain showed an expiry date of 22 September 2026.
The domain would therefore require renewal only a short time after we had purchased what was represented to us as a one-year term. The amount involved was approximately $40.
02 · Support response
What did GoDaddy support say?
GoDaddy explained that .co.nz domains operate according to registry rules and suggested that the previous registrar or the .nz registry may be responsible for the missing carry-over period.
We understand that registry rules can affect domain transfers and expiry dates. Our concern was not simply why the registry showed September 2026. Our concern was why GoDaddy sold and confirmed a one-year term with a 2027 renewal date if that term could not ultimately be provided.
Why did the registry show September 2026?
Why did GoDaddy represent a one-year term with a 2027 renewal date?
We asked GoDaddy either to honour the term represented during the purchase or provide an appropriate refund. Support ultimately advised that its proposed resolution was final and did not consider further escalation necessary.
We subsequently requested formal escalation in writing. At the time this page was published, we had not received a response to that escalation request or the requested adjustment or refund.
03 · Why it matters
Why does this matter if the amount was small?
The amount was approximately $40. Financially, this is not a major dispute. The reason We Solve Media considers it important is trust.
Domains are critical business assets. Businesses need to rely on the information presented when registering or transferring a domain, particularly the term, renewal date, amount charged, and what the transaction includes.
Term
The registration or transfer period being purchased.
Renewal date
When the domain will next require action or payment.
Price
The amount charged now and what future renewal may cost.
Inclusions
What the provider will actually supply for that amount.
If a provider represents a transaction as providing one year and confirms a particular renewal date, we believe it is reasonable for the customer to expect that outcome. If the provider cannot supply what was represented, we would expect it to correct the problem or offer an appropriate refund.
04 · Cumulative experience
Why was this the final straw?
This was not our first negative experience with GoDaddy. Over the years, We Solve Media has encountered several unrelated issues with GoDaddy, both with our own services and while helping clients.
We are not publishing details of those other incidents here, and we are not making claims about their causes. Those experiences had already reduced our confidence in the platform. We continued using GoDaddy where existing domains and services were already in place, but this .co.nz transfer dispute became the final straw.
What changed our position was the combination of the purchase discrepancy, the support experience, the lack of meaningful escalation, and our previous unrelated experiences with the provider.
As a result, We Solve Media is now:
- Moving our own domains and related services away from GoDaddy where practical
- No longer recommending GoDaddy to new clients
- Recommending alternative registrars where appropriate
- Helping existing clients migrate away from GoDaddy if they choose to do so
Direct answer
Is GoDaddy good for .co.nz domains?
Based on our experience, We Solve Media does not recommend GoDaddy for .co.nz domain transfers.
That does not mean every GoDaddy customer will encounter the same issue. Our recommendation is based specifically on our own documented .co.nz transfer experience, the way the dispute was handled, and our cumulative experience over several years.
05 · Independent research
What do other GoDaddy customers say?
Our experience is only one experience. We encourage anyone considering GoDaddy to research the provider independently before choosing a domain registrar or hosting provider.
Rather than relying solely on GoDaddy’s marketing or on this page, read a range of recent customer experiences from independent review platforms. Two places prospective customers may wish to check are:
Research noteWe do not reproduce, summarize, score, or characterize the reviews on either platform here. Read a range of positive and negative reviews, pay attention to recent experiences, and consider themes relevant to the specific services you need.
06 · Supplier standard
Why is We Solve Media moving away from GoDaddy?
A technical problem can happen with any provider. What matters to us is what happens afterwards.
When We Solve Media recommends technology suppliers to clients, we consider more than pricing or features. Our cumulative experience with GoDaddy reduced our confidence across four areas:
- Accuracy
- Can we rely on the information presented during the purchase?
- Support
- Can a problem be clearly understood and resolved?
- Escalation
- Is there a practical way to reach someone who can reconsider a decision?
- Accountability
- Will the provider take ownership when a purchase does not match what was represented?
The .co.nz transfer issue was not the only reason for leaving, but it was the final incident that convinced us to move away from the platform entirely.
07 · GoDaddy alternatives
What domain registrar do we recommend instead?
For many of our own domains and suitable client domains, We Solve Media is moving toward Cloudflare Registrar.
We already use Cloudflare extensively for DNS, security, and website infrastructure, so consolidating supported domain management there makes sense for our business.
No domain registrar is perfect, and the right provider depends on the customer’s technical requirements. Our position is simply that, based on our experience, we are more comfortable using and recommending alternatives to GoDaddy.

Should you move your domain away from GoDaddy?
Not necessarily. If your GoDaddy account is working well and you are happy with the service, there may be no immediate reason to move.
It is sensible to compare alternatives if you are:
- Registering a new .co.nz domain
- Transferring an existing .co.nz domain
- Consolidating business domains
- Reviewing domain renewal costs
- Experiencing problems with GoDaddy support
- Looking for a registrar with different infrastructure or management options
Compare providers against your requirements and risk tolerance, and consider reading recent independent customer experiences for GoDaddy and the alternatives you are considering.
Before transferring a domain
What should you check before transferring a domain?
Keep a record of what is shown before you pay. That record makes it easier to identify and demonstrate a discrepancy if the details change after the transfer.
- 01
The current expiry date
- 02
The promised transfer or registration period
- 03
The expected expiry or renewal date after transfer
- 04
The amount being charged
- 05
Any statements about additional registration time
- 06
The confirmation email or invoice after purchase
Frequently asked questions
Clear answers about our GoDaddy review.
These answers describe We Solve Media’s experience and current professional position. They do not describe every GoDaddy customer’s experience.
Why doesn’t We Solve Media recommend GoDaddy?
We no longer recommend GoDaddy because of our cumulative experience with the provider over several years, including multiple unrelated issues with our own services and while assisting clients. Our recent .co.nz domain transfer dispute became the final straw. The transfer was represented as including a one-year term and a 2027 renewal date, while the transferred domain ultimately displayed a 22 September 2026 expiry date. We were unable to obtain the resolution or escalation we requested from GoDaddy support.
Was this the only issue you had with GoDaddy?
No. We have experienced several unrelated issues with GoDaddy over the years, both personally and while assisting clients. We are not publishing details of those other incidents here, and this page does not make claims about their causes. Those experiences had already reduced our confidence in the platform; the .co.nz transfer dispute ultimately caused us to stop recommending GoDaddy and begin moving away from the provider.
Did GoDaddy explain why the expiry date was different?
Yes. GoDaddy referred to .co.nz registry rules and the previous registrar when explaining the domain's expiry date. Our concern was different: we wanted GoDaddy to address why its own purchase information represented the transaction as a one-year term with a later renewal date.
Did GoDaddy refund the missing period?
At the time this page was published, we had not received the requested adjustment or refund from GoDaddy.
Did you ask GoDaddy to escalate the complaint?
Yes. After being advised that support considered its response final, we requested formal escalation in writing. At the time this page was published, we had not received a response to that escalation request.
Are you saying GoDaddy does this to every customer?
No. This page documents our own experience. We cannot say whether the same thing happens to other customers, and customers should make their own decision based on their requirements and experiences.
Where can I find other GoDaddy reviews?
People considering GoDaddy may wish to read recent independent customer reviews on platforms such as ProductReview.com.au and ConsumerAffairs.com. We recommend reading a range of positive and negative experiences rather than relying on any single review or source.
What registrar does We Solve Media use instead?
We are moving toward Cloudflare Registrar for supported domains where it is suitable for the client's requirements.
Can We Solve Media help move a domain away from GoDaddy?
Yes. We can assist businesses with domain transfers, DNS configuration, website migration and email-related DNS changes where required.
Our position
A documented experience and professional opinion.
We published this page because customers benefit from seeing real-world experiences when choosing important technology suppliers.
We have retained documentation relating to the original transaction and our correspondence with GoDaddy. This page represents our experience and professional opinion based on the information available to us.
The .co.nz transfer issue was not our only negative experience with GoDaddy, but it was the final straw after several unrelated issues over the years. We encourage prospective customers not to rely solely on our experience: research the provider, compare alternatives, and read a range of recent independent customer experiences before making a decision.
If GoDaddy subsequently resolves the issue or provides information that materially changes our understanding of what occurred, We Solve Media will update this page accordingly.
